Objective

Develop teaching strategies that work.

Instructions

1. Research and find lesson plans that include all elements of effective instruction (e.g., objectives, activating prior knowledge, explicit instruction, guided practice, formative assessment) for each grade level—elementary, middle, and high. These should differ from previous lesson plans you’ve added to the portfolio.
2. Research and prepare at least three technology tools to check for understanding in the classroom.
3. Develop a set of higher-order thinking questions related to a specific topic in your choice of subject area. Select at least three subject areas.

Include these strategies and activities in your portfolio under the section “Emergency Lesson Plans.” This will be part of your “Substitute Teacher Toolkit.”
