Guided Practice

After explaining, give students a chance to practice with your help:

• Model the task first (show students exactly what to do).
• Do a few examples together as a class.
• Provide a template or checklist for students to follow.
• Circulate and offer help as students work.
• Encourage students to ask questions.

Guided practice builds students’ confidence before they work independently.

Independent Practice

Once students understand, let them practice on their own:

• Provide clear instructions (written and verbal).
• Offer choices on how to complete the task.
• Have extension activities ready for fast finishers.
• Be available to help, but encourage students to try solving problems themselves first.
• Provide feedback as students work.

Independent practice helps students master new skills.

Using Technology Wisely

• Educational Apps: Incorporate apps that enhance learning, like Kahoot! or Quizlet.
• Interactive Tools: Use tools like smartboards or online simulations.
• Best Practices: Ensure technology use is purposeful and enhances the lesson.

Technology can enhance learning, but use it thoughtfully:

• Only use tech if it genuinely improves the lesson.
• Make sure you know how to use the tech before class.
• Have a backup plan in case of technical problems.
• Use tech to make learning more interactive, not just for passive watching.
• Be aware of school policies on technology use.

Remember, technology should support learning, not replace good teaching.
