Live

Objective

Develop a brief introduction script to use when entering a new classroom. This script should help you quickly build rapport with students and establish a positive classroom environment.

Instructions

  1. Write a script that introduces yourself, shares a fun or interesting fact about you, and outlines your expectations for the day.
  2. Include a strategy for learning students’ names quickly and engaging with them positively.
  3. Create a “Substitute Teacher Toolkit” that includes the following resources:

    1. A list of at least five general icebreaker activities suitable for various grade levels.
    2. A personal checklist for preparing for a substitute teaching day.
    3. A template for leaving notes for the regular teacher.

Portfolio Integration

Include this introduction script in your portfolio under the section “Building Rapport with Students.” This will be part of your “Substitute Teacher Toolkit.”

The portfolio can be a binder that holds the pieces you will produce as part of your assignments.
