Lesson 5 of 6

5. Deep Dive into Specific Saboteurs: Recognition and Overcoming Strategies

Live
When multiple Saboteurs crowd your mind at once, it can feel overwhelming, but naming them helps you break free from their grip and respond with clarity and choice.

Youโ€™ve already learned how Saboteurs can distort your strengths into stress-inducing patterns. But now itโ€™s time to get personal.

This lesson zooms in on specific Saboteurs that may be playing a role in your own life. Whether itโ€™s the voice that says you canโ€™t say no, the part of you that delays uncomfortable tasks, or the inner critic that demands perfection, each Saboteur has a recognizable personality and a predictable impact.

Once you can name these patterns, you can work with them. Youโ€™ll learn to recognize their cues early and respond with clarity, compassion, and self-trust.

Why It Matters

Saboteurs thrive in the background. As long as you believe their voice is โ€œjust how you are,โ€ their influence goes unchallenged.

Visualize the following two internal statements:

  1. This is going to be difficult and when I fail everyone will be disappointed in me.
  2. My Saboteurs are telling me that this is difficult and that everyone will be disappointed in me when it fails.

Which one of those opens up a possibility for success?

When you begin to notice: โ€œWait, thatโ€™s not me. Thatโ€™s a fear-driven pattern,โ€ something shifts. You create space. You start to choose instead of react.

This lesson gives you practical tools, early warning signs, self-talk techniques, and reflective questions that help you move from automatic habits to intentional responses. And once you understand your own Saboteurs, youโ€™re better equipped to recognize and support others in theirs.

? Introduction & Learning Goals

In this lesson, you will:

  • Identify specific Saboteur patterns in your own thinking and behavior
  • Learn how to recognize common signs of Saboteurs like the Hyper-Pleaser, Avoider, and Hyper-Achiever
  • Practice using self-talk strategies that help quiet these patterns and return to Sage mode
  • Explore how multiple Saboteurs can interact and reinforce one another
  • Begin applying your MindShifting insights to support others with empathy and clarity

This lesson is about reclaiming your freedom. The freedom to act from who you are, not from who your fears tell you to be.

Lesson 5 will cover techniques to recognize and recover from Saboteur mindsets. The best way to implement these techniques is to practice them first when you are not in limbic mode. For each of the Saboteurs, there will be a reflection that will ask you to:

  1. Imagine a situation where that Saboteur is dictating how you feel and act.
  2. Try the technique to recognize and quiet the Saboteur.
  3. Imagine what you would do if you were fully in Sage or resourceful mode.
  4. Imagine how you will feel after you acted from Sage

These are the same basic steps from the Visualization techniques in Module 3: Success Anticipation and SCORE. You can re-use the AI Mentor exercises on those techniques to coach you to become more resourceful in the face of Saboteur mindsets.
