Lesson 3 of 7

3. Recognizing Saboteurs and Scripts

Live
This lesson helps you recognize your Saboteurs in action, understand what feeds them, and start practicing how to catch them before they take control.

Some of your most unhelpful patterns donโ€™t feel like patterns at all. They feel like personality traits, preferences, or simple facts about who you are. But underneath the surface, many of these reactions are shaped by internal voices that limit your growth, drain your energy, or keep you stuck.

Shirzad Chamine refers to these inner voices as Saboteurs, with the most dominant one known as the Judge. Phil Stutz, on the other hand, calls them Part X, the force that resists growth and pulls you back into old patterns.ย

They often appear as procrastination, perfectionism, self-criticism, blame, or helplessness. And theyโ€™re driven by stories your brain uses to make those behaviors feel justified, even necessary.

In this lesson, youโ€™ll learn to spot these Saboteurs in action, understand what keeps them alive, and begin practicing how to catch them before they take over.

Why It Matters

You canโ€™t change what you donโ€™t notice. And some of the most limiting scripts in your life are the ones that have become so familiar, you donโ€™t even question them.

Saboteurs thrive in that invisibility. Theyโ€™re reinforced by stress, emotion, and fast survival thinking. They tell you lies that feel true, like โ€œIf I donโ€™t get this perfect, Iโ€™ll fail,โ€ or โ€œItโ€™s their fault, not mine.โ€

But once you begin to see these patterns, you can begin to interrupt them.

This lesson gives you the tools to recognize Saboteur behaviors, understand the role of fear and chemistry in your reactions, and activate your awareness through something called the Interceptor. Itโ€™s a step toward reclaiming your clarity, and your power to choose. Weโ€™ll explore Saboteurs in more depth in Module 6, but this lesson lays the foundation.

? Introduction & Learning Goals

In this lesson, you will:

  • Identify common Saboteur behaviors and how they show up in your life
  • Explore the internal stories that justify unproductive or reactive patterns
  • Understand how stress hormones make Saboteur stories harder to challenge
  • Learn to recognize when youโ€™re in a reactive state versus a reflective one
  • Be introduced to the Interceptor, a method for catching Saboteur patterns in real time
  • Begin building the skill of shifting away from internal sabotage and toward intentional action

Youโ€™re not here to silence your inner voice, but to recognize which parts of it are trying to keep you small.

Letโ€™s begin.
