About Me | Mike Sylofski is a Deputy Director at the Northeastern Regional Information Center (NERIC) at Capital Region BOCES in Albany, New York.  He has spent nearly 30 years supporting district instructional technology initiatives in northeastern New York. Mike is a leader in helping schools develop, implement, and deliver distance, blended, and online learning programs. He helps manage a leading synchronous interactive video Distance Learning program connecting over 60 school districts across 15 counties. This program serves over 2,200 students daily and is considered a national model for E-Learning and regional collaboration. Mike is also one of the creators and ongoing designers of the Capital Region BOCES/NERIC Cooperative Virtual Learning Academy (CVLA), a virtual school using a innovative collaborative community model to staff teachers from a consortium of school districts. In addition to his role at NERIC, Mike is the Chairperson of the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Digital Learning Advisory Council. He also serves as a Corporate Council Focus Group facilitator for the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE). Mike is a Past President of NYSCATE and served on the organization’s Board of Directors representing the Capital District region of New York State from 2009-2021. He received the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Making IT Happen award in 2015 and the School Administrators Association of New York State’s (SAANYS) inaugural Leader in Digital Education award in 2017. Mike is a Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) Certified Education Technology Leader and a member of ISTE, CoSN, the New York State Distance Learning Consortium, and The Phi Beta Kappa Society. He has presented on a series of e-learning topics at numerous international, national, state, and regional events and workshops. Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University at Albany.
