About Me | Hello All! My name is Matthew Winters. I am from Ogden, Utah and I have spent most of my adult life working in a variety of classrooms at all levels of instruction. I started as a higher education writing instructor for Utah State University. After completing my Master’s in English Language and Literature, I understood very quickly that I loved teaching over research and pursued a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a secondary teaching license. I started in the secondary classroom in 2015 as a English Language Arts teacher. I continued that work for a few years while also learning educational technology and being added to a district technology team. In 2019, I started as a part-time Instructional Technology Coach and continued working towards full time. With a small team, I built a schoolwide makerspace, developed a technology management plan, and helped coach teachers in their curriculum and technology use. During that time I also attended and/or presented at local conferences like the STEM Action Center Summer Conference and UCET, and national conferences like ISTE and SXSWEDU. In 2021, I moved to Utah Education Network as a Sr. Technology Trainer. I work with local education agencies across Utah to help develop technology use in their educators. I help run our Google Workspaces for Edu professional development. I also help to develop and teach fully online courses for Utah educators. I also currently serve as the Utah Coalition for Education Technology President, our local ISTE affiliate. I will direct our regional conference in March 2023. As part of my Google work in Utah, I recently resurrected Google Educator Group Utah and currently co-lead it throughout the year. We recently just hit 200 members. In my free time, I love to collect music (vinyl and CDs), read boatloads of graphic novels, and play with Bear and Ted, my two rough collies. |
